People had no objection to an episode of Samrat Prithviraj on Bharat Ek Khoj directed by Shyam Benegal: Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi on people questioning the authenticity of his film

Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi has lashed out on fringe groups who have questioned the authenticity of Samrat Prithviraj. The renowned writer – director (who is best known for directing the television epic Chanakya and the critically acclaimed film Pinjar) has invested over 18 years of research on the script of Samrat Prithviraj, is now being questioned on the various scenes in the film.

Since release, he has addressed the various allegations raised on the film and has dived back into the book, Prithviraj Raso to protect and answer every question raised. The film is his labour of love and he now questions why Shyam Benegal’s Bharat Ek Khoj which released in 1988 never raised an eyebrow and was just lapped up by audiences instantly.

Sharing his angst he says “What I find odd is that people had no objection to an episode of Samrat Prithviraj on Bharat Ek Khoj which was directed by the much respected Shyam Benegal who had his own interpretation of how Samrat Prithviraj killed Muhammad of Ghor as per Chand Bardai’s documentation in Prithviraj Raso. It is shocking that people are pointing fingers at our film when the same section of people should also see Bharat Ek Khoj. This is just debate for the sake of it. Our film is a salute to an Indian hero and I hope people see Samrat Prithviraj through that lens.”

Samrat Prithviraj, which is based on the life and valour of the fearless and mighty King Prithviraj Chauhan is running in theatres since 3rd June 2022.
