Amol Palekar admitted to Pune hospital for prolonged illness, wife says ‘he is recovering and condition is fine’

Veteran actor and director Amol Palekar has been admitted at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. He is suffering from a prolonged illness. Palekar, 77, is responding well to medicines and his condition is stable as per reports. The news of his being admitted was confirmed by his wife Sandhya Gokhale. The actor was last seen in the film 200-Halla Ho that also stared Barun Sobti, Ishtiyak Khan, Sahil Khattar, Rinku Rajguru among others.

Palekar’s wife, Sandhya Gokhale told a news channel, “There is nothing to worry about Amol Palekar's health. He is recovering and his condition is better than before. This is an old illness. Due to excessive smoking, he was admitted to hospital 10 years ago as well. But his condition is fine.”

Palekar is well known for his work in parallel cinema and in several TV shows. Several of his films are iconic gems like Gol Maal, Shriman Shrimati, Naram Garam, Chhoti Si Baat, Rajnigandha, Chitchor etc.

Palekar also worked in Marathi mainstream film and parallel cinema. He made his debut in 1971 with the film Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe. He then stepped into Bollywood with Basu Chatterjee’s Rajnigandha opposite Vidya Sinha in 1974.
