The ceremony for Padma Awards 2020 was held today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind honoured individuals who have excelled in several fields with their exceptional contribution. Besides Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor who were honoured with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour, veteran actress Sarita Joshi, veteran playback singer Suresh Wadkar and legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam also received the Padma Awards. SP Balasubrahmanyam awarded Padma Vibhushan Award Posthumously
Legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who passed away last year due to Covid-19 complications has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously for his contribution to the world of art. The famous playback singer crooned several songs spanning multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and even Malayalam. The last song, the musical legend recorded was titled Annaatthe Annaatthe and it was for Rajinikanth’s most recent theatrical release, Annaatthe. Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award and is given for ‘exceptional and distinguished service’. Subrahmanyam has been a recipient of the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011).

Veteran playback singer Dr Suresh Wadkar received Padma Shri award today from President Ram Nath Kovind for Art. He performs in both Hindi and Marathi films and has sung songs in some Bhojpuri films, Odia albums and bhajans and in Konkani films.
