After it was announced that theatres in Maharashtra are reopening on October 22, several top Bollywood filmmakers declared the revised release dates of their films that were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as a result of this, many big-budget films will be clashing at the box office. Today, one of the biggest and crucial clashes was announced. The beginning of 2022 will be eventful for Indian cinema as films of two of the biggest filmmakers are releasing together.
S S Rajamouli, this evening, announced the release date of his magnum opus period film RRR. The film starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Ram Charan, Jr. NTR among others will be releasing in theatres on January 7, 2022. Sharing a new poster of RRR, Alia, who plays Sita, the wife of Ram Charan's Alluri Sita Ramaraju, wrote, "07.01.2022. See you at the Cinemas!! Get ready to experience India’s Biggest Action Drama in cinemas worldwide."

RRR will be clashing with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi also starring Alia. The actress will be seen in the titular role. Once again, Alia will be sharing the screen space with Ajay, who plays Kareem Lala. Gangubai Kathiawadi will release in theatres on January 6, 2022.
