75th Independence Day: Sidharth Malhotra salutes late Captain Vikram Batra and armed forces, Akshay Kumar pays tribute to 'Bharat Ke Veer'

India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day today. On the special occasion, countrymen from different parts of the nation hoisted the tricolour and remembered our freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to make India independent. The Prime Minister of India started the day by unfurling the tricolour at Red Fort and also addressed our nation. Bollywood celebrities sent out wishes for their fans on social media.

Sidharth Malhotra, who is winning hearts as Captain Vikram Batra in the biographical film Shershaah, shared a picture of himself holding the flag. The caption read: "Ek fauji ke rutbe se bada koi aur rutba nahi hota, Vardi ki shaan se badi koi aur shaan nahi hoti...Aur apne desh se bada koi dharam nahi hota. I salute the Indian Army, Navy & Air Force today on Independence Day"

Sidharth paid tributes to Captain Batra and other Armymen. He wrote, "Paid my respects to Captain Vikram Batra & all other Fauji heroes in Delhi. This. The warmth and fondness with which he writes to his loved ones… while at war! That’s the extraordinary mettle a soldier is made of. When I read this letter… I could see Vikram in front of my eyes! Smiling, as he writes… with bombs dropping in the background. Like he found a quiet corner to take time out. But when he’ll go back to work, it’s lethal… he’s going to fight for his country… until his last breath. But there isn’t just one Vikram. In Kargil alone, we lost 527 Vikrams. They lived life - Yeh Dil Maange More! Let’s fill our hearts with pride as we remember every sainik today. JAI HIND. Happy 75th Independence Day."

Akshay Kumar paid tribute to Bharat Ke Veer with a special video. He wrote, "Tum Aaogey : A Tribute To Bharat Ke Veer. Today as we celebrate Independence Day and salute those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our great nation, let us extend our gratitude. Support their families. Be their family."
