Swara Bhasker, Shabana Azmi and Divya Dutta's Sheer Qorma has been making the right amount of noise. A heart-touching narrative of the longing for love and acceptance, which is felt by the queer community within their households, Sheer Qorma is breaking stereotypes. Now, the team of the film has another reason to celebrate because it has won the Best Short Film Audience Award at the Frameline Fest. Sheer Qorma has also qualified for The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) this year.
Swara shared the news on her Twitter account and wrote, "WE WON THE BIGGEST QUEER FILM FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD! Directed by Faraz Arif Ansari, Sheer Qorma also won the Best Short Film, Audience award at the 34th Connecticut LGBT Festival. The film revolves around Swara, who plays a Pakistani-Canadian citizen. She travels to India to be with her lover, played by Divya Dutta. However, the latter's mother, played by Shabana Azmi, finds it difficult to accept her daughter’s choices.
Though Sheer Qorma has premiered at many film festivals, it is yet to release in India.
