'Such a shameful act,' say Netizens as Noida Stadium uses Farhan Akhtar's picture from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag instead of Milkha Singh

Padma Shri awardee and legendary athlete Milkha Singh passed away due to post-COVID complications on June 18 at a hospital in Punjab. He was 91 and breathed his last days after his wife, Nirmal Kaur's death due to the virus. Tributes from different corners of the country poured in. Now, people are revisiting his journey by watching his biopic, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film starred Farhan Akhtar in the titular role.

As the nation mourns the demise of Milkha Singh, a journalist named Anisha Dutta shared a picture of a poster at Noida Stadium and it has taken the internet by storm. It seems the officials couldn't differentiate between the actor and real person and ended up installing a poster of Farhan next to a running track at the stadium. Anisha tweeted, "Would request @noida_authority to replace these boards along the running track at Noida Stadium with the picture of the real Milkha Singh and not Farhan Akhtar's character in the movie."

Soon, netizens slammed the authorities for the blunder. One user wrote, "Totally agree. These should not have been placed in the first place as the ones with Farhan Akhtar seem to promoting farhan and his film, which is not to be done by the Govt authority." Another person said, "100% agree….to me it’s a shameful act by someone who used REEL actor picture on these hoardings. Who the hell is not aware of our REAL HERO -THE FLYING MACHINE Mr. MILKHA SINGH. @KirenRijiju -Sir, kindly look into this."

The Chief Executive Officer, NOIDA Authority, reacted to the same and said, "Images were placed many years back; these have been removed today and will be repainted as per norms."
