Itihaas ko kalam se nahin, kadam se likha: Amul pays tribute to legendary sprinter Milkha Singh

Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh lost the battle against COVID-19 at a hospital in Punjab. He had tested positive for the virus in the month of May. Milkha Singh passed away on June 18 at 11.30 pm at the age of 91. He had tested negative for COVID-19 on June 16 and was shifted to the general ICU in another block of the hospital. However, his condition deteriorated on June 18. Soon after the news broke out, people across the country sent condolences and paid tribute to the legend.

From politicians to crickets and Bollywood stars, every person was mourning the demise of Milkha Singh, who was an inspiration to many. Amul, through a topical, paid tribute to Milkha Singh. Their caption on their graphic read, "Itihaas ko kalam se nahin, kadam se likha." One social media user wrote, "Running in peace" while the other said, "India’s Pride".

Milkha Singh is survived by three daughters Dr Mona Singh, Aleeza Grover, Sonia Sanwalka and son Jeev Milkha Singh. The legendary sprinter's wife, Nirmal Kaur, passed away on June 13 due to COVID-19 complications. She was 85 years old. 

Milkha Singh's life was documented in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)  and Farhan Akhtar played the lead role.
