Maharashtra and Gujarat were on high alert on Sunday and Monday due to the "extremely severe cyclonic storm"- cyclone Tauktae. The cyclone caused destruction in the states. Pictures and videos of cyclone Tauktae causing destruction in the city went viral on social media. The cyclone that affected Mumbai too caused damage to the sets of films that were being shot before the curfew was announced. The set of Ajay Devgn's Maidaan was affected badly.
A source close to the film told a leading daily that though there were no casualties, the set of Maidaan was damaged. "There were about 40 people on the set when the cyclone hit the 'Maidaan' set- the guards and the curators of the football ground which largely comprises the set. They tried their best to save as much as they could but their efforts proved almost totally futile," the source said.
The source added, "The 'Maidaan' makers Boney Kapoor (producer) and Amit Sharma (director) had hoped that the ongoing lockdown would be eased beyond May 31, 2021, and they would wind up the matches part in the next 15-17 days. But all those plans, for now, stand washed out."
In the past, Maidaan suffered a major blow. A 16-acre, high-maintenance set built for the film was dismantled in May 2020 due to COVID-19 and monsoon. Luckily, indoor and a few outdoor sequences were already shot in Kolkata and Lucknow.
Maidaan is presented by Zee Studios and Boney Kapoor. It is produced by Boney, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadros and Ritesh Shah respectively. Apart from Ajay, the film stars Priyamani.
