He promised to come back from hospital in three days and teach me acting but never returned: Babil I Khan as he accepts Irrfan's posthumous Filmfare trophy

Acclaimed actor Irrfan was awarded posthumously the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Angrezi Medium recently. While everyone, right from hosts Rajkummar Rao and Riteish Deshmukh to Jaideep Ahlawat and Anurag Basu who were asked to present the award got emotional at hearing Irrfan’s name, it was his son Babil I Khan’s emotional message that left many teary-eyed.

While accepting the award on his late father, Irrfan’s behalf, Babil recounted an incident and said, “I was supposed to return from film school, and my father said to me ‘Everyone wants to learn acting from me except you,’ so I told him ‘let’s do it, let’s start from tomorrow’. However, he got admitted the next day and promised me that he will come back in three days and then start teaching me but he did not return and passed away.”

Babil’s words brought a lump to several people’s throats as Irrfan was highly revered and loved. He passed away on April 29 last year leaving a deep void in the hearts of his friends, family and fans.

On the other hand, Babil is soon going to make his film debut in the Netflix film Qala that stars Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. It is backed by Anushka Sharma’s production house.
