Blamed for Red Fort violence on Republic Day, actor and farmers' protest supporter Deep Sidhu goes missing; FIR registered against him in Delhi

On Wednesday, the Delhi police named actor, Deep Sidhu, and gangster turned social activist, Lakha Sidhana in an FIR in connection with the Red Fort violence on Republic Day 2021. Now, Deep, who was blamed for the violence that took place during the tractors' rally, has reportedly gone missing.

Sidhu, who was last seen in the Republic Day chaos, went live on Facebook and was spotted among other protesting farmers hoisting the Nishan Sahib flag on an empty rampart of Red Fort. The actor, in a video from the incident, was caught running away from the spot when the situation turned tense. He was seen jumping onto a bike and fleeing. Defending his actions, Deep said in a live video that the section of protestors didn't remove the Indian flag but only put up the Nishan Sahib as a symbolic protest.

Sidhu is accused of inciting violence. Reportedly, an FIR against him has been registered at Kotwali police station of North district under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and other legislation. As per reports, provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act and the Arms Act have been added in the FIR. The police have invoked IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 152 (assaulting or obstructing public servant when suppressing riot, etc), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), and 307 (attempt to murder).

While an investigation into Sidhu's role in the chaos is underway, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Gurdaspur, actor Sunny Deol, dismissed reports of having any connection with him. Reacting to reports, Sunny clarified that neither he nor his family have any relations with Sidhu.
