Akshay Kumar's 'Prithviraj' set in Mumbai to be dismantled before monsoon

As the nation is fighting against Coronavirus for nearly two months, shoots of upcoming shows, films and web content are on hold. Currently, in the fourth phase, filmmakers have given up hope that the work on projects will resume anytime before monsoon hits the country. With lavish sets mounted, makers of big-budget films are incurring major losses. While monsoon is a few weeks away, the team of Akshay Kumar's period drama Prithviraj is considering demolishing a grand outdoor set constructed in Dahisar, stated a leading daily's report. According to a source close to the development, a palace that resembled the architectural style of the 12th century was put up two months ago to shoot a war sequence with Akshay. The makers of this historical drama were hopeful that the situation would improve soon but now, retaining the construction isn't feasible. As per the report, 60% of the shoot is completed.

"The head honchos of Yash Raj Films had kept the set standing over the past two months, hoping that the situation would improve soon. However, with the rains only weeks away, it doesn't seem feasible to retain the set any longer. The makers are currently procuring necessary permission to have it pulled down. Akshay had filmed a major portion of the Chandraprakash Dwivedi-directed drama at the Dahisar set before the lockdown was announced, but some crucial sequences have yet to be shot," the source told.

A spokesperson of Yash Raj Films, the production house of Prithviraj, confirmed the demolition of the palace and informed that once the situation returns to normalcy, an indoor set will be put up. "This information is accurate. The set will now be put up indoors once shooting resumes," the spokesperson told.

Prithviraj is directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi and will trace the story of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan who stood strong and battled against Muhammad of Ghor and his ruthless invaders of India. With his bravery and valour, the warrior attained the status of a legendary ruler and fighter of free India. It also stars Manushi Chillar, Sonu Sood and Ashutosh Rana in the lead role. The film is scheduled to release on Diwali 2020.
