Ever since Doordarshan (DD National) decided to rerun its classic and iconic programmes like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Chanakya, Upanishad Ganga, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Buniyaad, Circus, Shaktimaan etc, people have been sharing news, memes and jokes about them. Ramayan has once again captured the imagination of the nation and it has been trending big time ever since it started its re-run. However, unwittingly Sonakshi Sinha also found herself to be the object of several memes as Shaktimaan star Mukesh Khanna who also played Bhishma Pitamah in Mahabharata took a dig at her saying that now people like her who have no knowledge about Indian epics will get to learn.
Sonakshi had failed to answer a question based on Ramayan while participating on the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati some time ago. It now appears that she is pretty fed up with trolls who have been questioning her knowledge on the epic in a recent AskMe session on Instagram. She shut down a troll saying, “Lots of you have Ramayan related questions, please watch it on Doordarshan and you will get all your answers. Jai Bajrang Bali!”
Mukesh’s jibe on Sonakshi was in reference to a question that was asked to her on Amitabh Bachchan’s quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati that left everyone stumped as it was based on Ramayan. It was ironic as Sonakshi's father Shatrughan Sinha is named after Lord Rama’s youngest brother, also all her uncles are named after characters from the epic and even her twin elder brothers are named Luv and Kush.
Shatrughan Sinha had soon jumped in the fray and defended Sonakshi’s lack of knowledge and had slammed Mukesh. He had said, “I believe someone has problem with Sonakshi not answering a question on the Ramayan. Firstly what qualifies this person to be an expert on all things to do with the Ramayan? And who has appointed him the guardian of the Hindu religion? Not answering a question on the Ramayan doesn’t disqualify Sonakshi from being a good Hindu. She doesn’t need a certificate of approval from anyone.”
