CONFIRMED: T-series honcho Bhushan Kumar to take his father Gulshan Kumar's legacy forward with 'Aashiqui' and 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin' franchises

In 1990, when Gulshan Kumar’s romance musical Aashiqui released, it took everyone by a storm and made Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal turn into overnight stars. Not to miss, the film is still fondly known for Nadeem-Shravan’s chartbusting score. The film's sequel hit the screens in 2013. Backed by original director, Mahesh Bhatt, and Gulshan's son Bhushan Kumar with Mohit Suri as the director, Aashiqui 2 too managed to revamp the careers of Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.

Ever since then, there have been talks of Aashiqui 3 and Mahesh had confirmed some time back that it was indeed true that the franchise was returning. He was keen to cast his daughter Alia and her then-beau Sidharth Malhotra in the film but soon, it was reported that Alia lost interest in the project. However, she soon quashed the rumours by saying that working with her father for the first time was “equally special”, hinting that she would certainly take up the project.

Now after several years of back and forth, we hear that Aashiqui 3 is underway and Bhushan is certain that he wishes to take the franchise forward. “Aashiqui is special for Bhushan as it’s among the most successful romantic franchises. Like the earlier two films, this one too will be a musical, with an intense love story in its backdrop,” a leading daily quoted a source as saying. That’s not all. Reportedly, Bhushan is willing to take another Mahesh Bhatt directorial, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, forward. The 1991 romcom starred Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt and was a box office hit. Apparently, both films will take off once the COVID-19 lockdown is over.

Before any further ado, Bhushan confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin are great franchises to take forward. Both films were big hits back in the day and it’s a great responsibility to carry my father’s legacy forward.” Well, that's really some exciting news for all the fans as they quarantine in their homes.
