Juhi Chawla became a household name with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak opposite Aamir Khan and followed it up with a spate of hit films. She starred opposite the big heroes of the day including Aamir, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Jacke Shroff and Sunny Deol. Having completed 34 successful years in Bollywood she recently revealed in an interview how she wanted to do the easy stuff and said no to some great films that went on to become big hits. She also said that she credits herself for Karisma Kapoor’s stardom as the films she said no to fell into her lap.
In the interview, Juhi said, “I became pig-headed. I suddenly thought the industry will stop if I don’t work. I got some amazing chances to work in films, but my ego came in the way. I didn’t do some films, which I could have done, which may have been harder work and more competitive. I just didn’t do them because I wanted the easy stuff and I wanted to work with people I was comfortable with. I didn’t break barriers.”

She mentioned two films she turned down- Dil To Pagal Hai and Raja Hindustani both went on to become blockbusters. When she was reminded that the films that were eventually taken up by Karisma Kapoor cemented her place in Bollywood and won her a National Award as well, Juhi joked and said, “I made stars out of everybody else. I made Karisma’s career. I am responsible for her stardom.”
Juhi was last seen in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga opposite Anil Kapoor. The film had Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in the lead. She will be next seen in Sharmaji Namkeen which marks Rishi Kapoor’s first project after his cancer diagnosis.
