News anchor grills Swara Bhasker for being unprepared for CAA-NRC-NPR event; actress slams her for sharing part of the debate

On Sunday, Swara Bhasker, who is quite vocal about her views on social and political issues, attended the Hindustan Shikhar Samagam with filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia and actor Zeeshan Ayyub, where they all discussed about Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR). However, the session did not go smooth as journalist Rubika Liyaqat, moderating the talk show, got involved in a heated argument with Swara. She even accused the actress of not having proper knowledge about the CAA and told her that she's unnecessary pitting Muslims against the Indian government.

What's more? The channel’s Twitter handle tweeted a clip of the debate saying “Watch: When Rubika Liyaquat suggested Swara Bhasker to read CAA”. In the video, Rubika can be repeatedly seen telling her to read the CAA. However, Swara lashed out at the news chanel and the journalist for not tweeting the part of the debate where she articulately explains her issues with the CAA and NRC in response to Rubika. Thanking her friends for pointing out the full video, Swara wrote on Twitter as she shared the same, "An edited three minute clip of my interaction with a Godi Media journalist were circulated today to make it seem like CAA-NRC - NPR protestors don’t know anything! Thankfully some friends did their own edit job which gives a clearer picture."

In the full video, Swara can be seen explaining, “You are right, CAA does not pertain to Indian citizens. However, as soon as you bring in the NRC, which makes a list of illegal residents – that could be anyone, even you and me. […] The way this power is being given to government officials to decide who is an Indian citizen – that is what we have a problem with.”

Soon, she got support from the netizens and even celebs like Onir, Hansal Mehta, Vikramaditya Motwane, Kubbra Sait and others. See the tweets here:

Not just that, Swara also shared a thread of points as put forth by other Twitter users regarding the debate.
