Rajinikanth extends support to CAA, says if Indian Muslims are affected, he will be the first one to speak up

The ongoing controversy surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was passed by the Parliament of India on December 11, 2019, has left the country divided. Soon after, students of various educational institutes went on a protest against CAA, which took an ugly turn when the violence took over the city of Delhi. A number of celebrities expressed their opinion on the same and joining them now is Rajinikanth. The actor-turned-politician who runs the party Rajini Makkal Mandram, in a statement to media, extended his support to CAA and told that Muslims residing in India after the Partition have no threat and in case they are affected, he will be there to stand for them.

"It is about giving citizenships to people who have come from neighbouring countries. A big scare has been created that Muslims will be affected. How will it affect Indian Muslims? The Muslims in India decided to stay back here during Partition stating that India is their land and that they will live and die here. How can they be sent out? If something like that happens, I will be the first one to speak out,” Rajinikanth told.

Thalaiva, in addition, spoke about the National Population Register (NPR) as well as the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as termed them as essential. The superstar said it needs to be done to identify the citizenship of the members and know which country they belong to. "It needs to be done to identify those who are Indians/who are foreigners -- which country they are from. Shouldn’t we know this? It is very, very essential and it has to be done. I don’t know what problem others have with this," Rajinikanth added.

Talking further, Rajinikanth requested everyone to not get influenced by the opposition party, but rather research about the topic well. He added that if one is unversed, political leaders will use them for their benefits. “Some religious gurus are also supporting these efforts. This is very wrong. Please do proper research on the subject, ask your parents and professors about this issue and then protest. Otherwise, political leaders will use you. Nobody knows how police will react. If an FIR is lodged, then it will become an issue in your life,” Rajinikanth concluded.
