'Gul Makai' trailer: Reem Shaikh as Malala Yousafzai shines in this story of courage that overcame fear and oppression

After much anticipation, the trailer of H.E. Amjad Khan’s highly anticipated film Gul Makai based on the life of Malala Yousafzai, is finally out. Reem Shaikh shines in every frame as she plays the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate from Swat Valley in Pakistan. 

The trailer opens with visuals of Swat Valley where the birth of a girl child is never celebrated by Pashtuns. Nonetheless, Reem as Malala finds support from her family and enjoys a normal childhood as she plays around in the snow with her friends and prays at home. However, that only lasts for a short period of time as the Swat valley get seized by Taliban gunmen, who enforced stringent rules on how men and women should conduct themselves. From killing the teachers to burning the books, the Taliban makes sure that no one from the valley gets education.

This is when Malala's mission to get all students to school begins as she emphasises in a speech to her townspeople. "One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world!" Her parents, played by Atul Kulkarni and Divya Dutta support her cause. To say the least, Gul Makai is a story of a braveheart, from her humble upbringing to her becoming the champion for free education to all.
