Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly sadi ke mahanayak and there ain't a denial. The superstar who has been an active actor in the industry for 50 years holds a special place in the heart of the audience and the history of Indian cinema. Be it his contribution to the industry or to the society, he never fails to amaze. Now, as the National Awards for this year were announced, Amitji was conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The award is considered to be the highest honour in India for the field of cinema and was presented by the President of the nation, Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony held in Delhi on Sunday. The National Awards distribution ceremony was originally held December 23 but owing to poor health, Amitji couldn't make it and received it after the rest of the winners. Post receiving the honours, the 77-year-old star told in his speech that apart from the blessings of parents and God, it is the audience' love that has enabled him to reach the peak. Adding further, he said there is a lot he has to do and expresses his desire to get better opportunities in the future.
"It is by the grace of God, the blessings of my parents, support of colleagues from the industry and the love of the people of India that I am able to stand in front of you. It's been 50 years since the establishment of Dadasaheb Phalke Award and it is the time for which I have been working in the industry. I am grateful for this opportunity and accept this award with gratitude. When the award was announced, I thought if this is a hint to tell me that my time is over and I need to rest at home now. There's still some work I have to finish and I will be grateful of you all if I get more opportunities in the future," Amitji told while receiving the award.
Amitji, apart from Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was conferred with Padma Shri in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contribution to the field of arts. For the ceremony, the actor was accompanied by his wife, actress Jaya Bachchan and son, actor Abhishek Bachchan.
Workwise, Amitji will be seen in Gulabo Sitabo with Ayushmann Khurrana. The film is directed by Shoojit Sircar and will release on April 17, 2020. He will also star with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in Ayan Mukerji's mythological drama Brahmastra which will release in Summer 2020.
