Jaya Bachchan calls for public lynching of the four accused in the Hyderabad rape and murder case, leaves Twitterati fiercely divided over the extreme suggestion

The horrific and brutal gangrape and murder of a female veterinary doctor in Hyderabad has brought shame and elicited outright outrage from everyone right from celebs to common man. Many have suggested some choicest punishments that should be meted out to the culprits. In the same fray, another name has joined that is of Samajwadi Party MP, Jaya Bachchan who earlier in the day spoke about the rape case in the Parliament and suggested that the rapists should be subjected to a public lynching.

She said, “Such people be brought out in the public and lynched.” The 26-year-old woman was gangraped and her body was set on fire and dumped near a toll booth in the Telangana capital that has sent shockwaves across the country with hundreds of women taking to the streets to voice their outrage. However, Jaya’s comment has the Twitter divided as many applauded her suggestion but many saw a problem as a lawmaker was calling for mob justice for the criminals irrespective of how heinous, gruesome and horrific the crime may be. Jaya Bachchan is well-known for very strong opinions about matters but this is invariably taking it too far. An eye for an eye is not exactly a solution and her suggestion will create more lawlessness in the nation.
