Over the years, Riteish Deshmukh has carved a place for himself in Bollywood as well as in Marathi cinema. He has impressed everyone with his impeccable comic timing in films and has always managed to outshine even in an ensemble. He has also delved into production and churned out hits in the regional Marathi cinema. However, coming from a political family the actor has never ventured into politics.
Being the son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister late Vilasrao Deshmukh and brother to Amit Deshmukh and Dhiraj Deshmukh, he has not had any inkling or interest in dabbing his fingers in the murky waters of Indian politics. During a recent interview with a leading daily, when asked about the same, he said, “I am my own person and while I respect everyone’s views, my job is to act in films, and that’s what I am doing. I leave politics to my brothers.”
When he was further asked whether power ever attracted him, he said, “I have seen it all my life, so power has never really been attractive. I am happy acting, that’s power for me.” Riteish’s elder brother Amit represents Latur City constituency in the Maharashtra State Assembly whereas younger brother Dhiraj was elected recently from the Latur Rural constituency to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2019 as a member of the Indian National Congress.
