Born on September 26, 1923 as Dharam Devdutt Pishorimal Anand to advocate Pishori Lal Anand in the state of Punjab in present day Pakistan, Dev Anand made his Bollywood debut with Hum Ek Hain in 1946 and in the 1950s and ’60s, emerged as the biggest star of Hindi cinema. Known to re-define romance with his repertoire, the evergreen star became the true definition of a 'hero' for Bollywood. Dev Sa’ab, as he was fondly called, took Bollywood by a storm with his innocent face and smile powered by his strong acting skills, even at a time when great actors like Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar were around. Nonetheless, his performances in films like Guide, Hum Dono, Jewel Thief, Johny Mera Naam, Teen Devian and several others, in his career spanning over six decades.

Dev Anand was married to actress Kalpana Karthik (aka Mona Singha) and had two children. Nonetheless, his love story with actress-singer Suraiya is still remembered. He breathed his last on December 3, 2011 in London after a cardiac arrest.
