The 66th National Film Awards were announced yesterday after a delay of 2-3 months due to the Lok Sabha General Elections. However, the awards did not let anyone upset as the best of the best films were honoured. Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte starre Pad Man won the Best Film on Social Issues. After the announcement, Akshay had released a statement thanking everyone associated with the film including his wife Twinkle Khanna who had produced the film.
Today, Twinkle took to social media to share a heartfelt note full of gratitude for everyone associated with the film Pad Man along with a collage of photos from the film’s shoot. Twinkle credited Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who inspired Akshay’s character in the film and on whose life the film was based. Twinkle had incorporated Muruganantham’s achievement of introducing low-cost sanitary napkins in her short story The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land from her book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. She shared another post where she rote how she was dissuaded from making a film on mensuration but she stuck to her guns and finally achieved the gold. Pad Man is the story of a man called Laxmi from a small village that goes to extreme lengths to make the cheapest sanitary pads for women so that he can uplift their lives and helps them lead a healthy and long life. The film was critically acclaimed as well as a box office success.
