Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are the darlings of Bollywood and probably one of the most loved real and reel couples of the industry. The couple has always managed to spell magic on screen together but unfortunately, have always had an unhappy ending to their storylines. In Goliyon Ki Rasleela-Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani, the couple ends up dying in the end, whereas in Padmaavat they do not have a romantic arc between their characters. However, looks like things are going to take a good turn if reports published in an entertainment portal are to be believed.
Apparently, Deepika who had signed only Chhapaak after Padmaavat will be seen in Ranveer starrer ’83 that is being directed by Kabir Khan. She will not only have a pivotal role to play but is also joining hands as a producer on the project. The entertainment website quoted a source, “Deepika has been locked for Kabir Khan's next film '83. The film that revolves around India's 1983 World Cup victory will primarily focus on Kapil Dev's story. The film has an ensemble cast being lead by Ranveer and now; DP too has given her go ahead to the film."
Earlier it was reported that Deepika will not be joining the cast for the film as her role was small, but looks like she has gone back on her word. The website further quoted the source that said, “Deepika has a good role because she plays Kapil's wife Romi Bhatia who was also a pageant winner. In fact, as far as the story goes, she had left the stadium after India started losing the wickets. But when she heard that they are on the verge of winning the World Cup, she came back to the stadium. That part is extremely dramatic. Also, the film will delve into the relationship between the husband and wife, their love story."

The source also told the portal about Deepika’s turn as a producer on the film. “Deepika has just ventured into production with Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak. When she was narrated the story of '83, she loved it because it's not just inspirational but also extremely emotional. She and Kabir have been friends for years now. So she decided to come on board as a co-producer, too. This will be the second venture under her banner,” said the source to the portal.
’83 is co-produced by Kabir Khan, Madhu Mantena and Vishnu Induri. The film is presented by Reliance Entertainment. It is based on India’s triumph at the Cricket World Cup of 1983. Ranveer plays the role of Kapil Dev who led the Indian cricket side to victory. The film is slated to release on April 10, 2020.
