This year’s Easter Sunday brought some gruesome news in its wake as six serial blasts rocked Sri Lanka in the morning, killing over 138 people and injuring more than 300 people. Two more blasts were recorded in Colombo, the capital of the island country. The first six blasts had hit three churches and three five-star hotels during Easter mass. The blasts in hotels and churches in different parts of the country occurred at around 8.45 am (local time) as the Easter Sunday masses were in progress across the country.
Following the news of the blasts, several political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood celebrities condemned the attack and expressed their grief and send out condolence messages to people who lost their dear ones. Jacqueline Fernandez who is from Sri Lanka was deeply saddened by the news. Only around six percent of the Sri Lankan population is Catholic, the majority being Buddhist. However, Christianity is seen as a unifying force as it includes people from both the Tamil and majority Sinhalese ethnic groups.
