Signing Bharat had nothing to do with my friendship with Salman Khan or Ali Abbas Zafar, says Katrina Kaif

Ahead of the trailer launch of Bharat, Katrina Kaif said that her signing up for the film was a professional decision and has nothing to do with her friendship with director Ali Abbas Zafar or co-actor Salman Khan, a leading daily reports. Katrina signed Bharat after Priyanka Chopra, who was supposed to star in the film initially, walked out of the project.

Moreover, Katrina, during her conversation with the daily, said that she agreed to star in the film soon after reading the script. “Ali and I are good friends, but when it comes to work, we are completely honest with each other. I read the script from start to finish in three hours and immediately called him to tell him that I loved it. I realised there was an opportunity of going the extra mile with this character. So, it had nothing to do with my friendship with Salman or Ali,” Katrina told the daily.

Surprisingly, Katrina also added, “In fact, Salman did not even call me after I signed the film. We met directly on the set.” Ali, in fact, had also directed Katrina previously in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Tiger Zinda Hai.

Katrina and Salman co-starred in several films together including Yuvvraj and Ek Tha Tiger while Bharat is their sixth project together. Speaking of working with Salman, Katrina said, "We share a comfort level, which has developed over the years. He loves to entertain the audience. He is a simple person in real life, and he approaches his films the way he approaches life."

The teaser of Bharat had released in January, and depicted that the film spans across the “journey of a man and a nation together” and features Salman as a navy officer, a stunt artiste, an ageing boxer and a coal miner. In one of the scenes in the teaser, Salman also appeared in formals, at the Wagah Border. Posters of Salman are being released till the date of the trailer release during the third week of April.

Bharat is an official adaptation of 2014 South Korean film Ode To My Father. It is produced by Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Production Pvt Ltd and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. The film also stars Sunil Grover, Disha Patani, Jackie Shroff, Tabu and Nora Fatehi, and is scheduled to release on Eid 2019.
