After Kangana Ranaut, Kajol to play the role of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, to star in a biopic titled ‘SasiLalitha’?

It was announced a few weeks back that Kangana Ranaut will be essaying the role of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in her biopic. Now, director Kethireddy Jagadishwara Reddy has announced another biopic on Jayalalithaa and her aide Sasikala titled Sasilalitha. The film’s first look released yesterday. Apparently, Kajol has been approached to play the role of Jayalalithaa and Amala Paul to essay the role of Sasikala.

Kethireddy told a website, “We have approached both Kajol and Amala Paul with the script. Jayalalithaa was a soft-spoken person who never got angry with anyone. I felt Kajol would be apt to play the part.” He said that unlike the other biopics on Jayalalithaa’s life that have been announced, his film will focus on her life from childhood till death. “The administrative part of her life is different. She was a person who couldn’t be in love with anybody even if she wanted to. She has expressed disappointment about not having married or had a child. This will be part of the film.”

The poster that has a superimposed picture of Sasikala and Jayalalithaa comes with the caption, ‘The Storm’. Talking about the two powerful ladies who ruled the politics of Tamil Nadu, Kethireddy said, “There is no Jayalalithaa without Sasikala, it’s like what we say about Ardhanarishvar. Some will like Sasikala’s portrayal and others won’t, but I’ll show how things truly were after speaking to all those associated with her life. Big technicians will be part of the movie, it will work out well.”

Apparently, other than Kangana’s film and now Kethireddy’s there is another biopic in the works that will star Nithya Menon in the lead and will be helmed by Priyadhaarshini. The film is titled The Iron Lady and Nithya looks a spitting image of the late Chief Minister in the poster that was released.

This is going to be Priyadhaarshini's debut film as a director, she has previously worked as an associate director with filmmaker Mysskin.
