Didn’t receive criticism but got a lot of excitement: Alia Bhatt on starring opposite Salman Khan in Inshallah

Alia Bhatt is pretty much excited about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Inshallah as she has been paired opposite Salman Khan in the film. She is 26 while Salman is 53 and asked about the criticism she might have received for the age difference with her co-star in the film, Alia had a spontaneous response.

“I didn’t get any criticism. I think I got a lot of excitement (feedback after the announcement),” Alia said while promoting her upcoming film Kalank in Mumbai on April 8.

Inshallah is Alia’s first film with Bhansali and without divulging further details, she added, “I think speculation is also a form of excitement in a way and why shouldn’t there be speculation. There should be and at least I am not bothered by that and I don’t think Salman or Bhansali sirare bothered. I think this is a filmmaker who has given us very good films, he is someone who we all are very fond of and I think we should just trust him with his vision.”

During her conversation, Alia also revealed that she had auditioned for Bhansali’s 2005 film Black, starring Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles, but was rejected. But that doesn’t matter because she is all set to begin shooting for Inshallah with Bhansali.

“I auditioned for Black but was rejected. Bhansali sir wanted me to do Balika Vadhu then, but things didn't fall in place. But now, we are working together and that matters,” she added.

With Salman, Bhansali has worked on the films Khamoshi: The Musical, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Saawariya. Salman is expected to begin shooting for Inshallah in September after wrapping his current project Dabangg 3. Meanwhile, he will appear in his Eid release Bharat, co-starring Katrina Kaif.

Alia Bhatt’s Kalank will release on April 17.
