Akshay Kumar to begin filming Hindi adaptation of Kanchana at a studio in Mumbai next week?

After wrapping Good News last week, Akshay Kumar is all set to begin work on his horror comedy, tentatively titled Laxmi, next week at a studio in Mumbai, a leading daily reports. The film in question is an official adaptation of the Tamil franchise, Kanchana, which released in 2007. The sequel to the Tamil film Kanchana: Muni released in 2011 while the third part will hit screens on April 19.

The Kanchana series has been directed by Raghava Lawrence while he also stars in the lead role in the three films. Raghava will be directing Akshay in the remake as well.

“He will start shooting for it next week at a studio in Mumbai. It would be a brief stint during which the team will film a song titled Bismillah which will have the ambience of a typical horror film. This will be followed by another four-five day of work on some scenes before it’s a wrap for the first schedule,” a source was quoted as saying by the daily.

Sources told the daily that the remake will imbibe characteristics of Kanchana as well as Kanchana: Muni. “Farhad Samji is on board as one of the writers of Laxmi and the team has been working on the script for over six months trying to work new dimensions into the original story,” the source added.

After completing the first schedule of Laxmi, Akshay will begin work on Sooryavanshi with Rohit Shetty.  “He has allotted bulk dates to Rohit and will start filming towards the end of May. It will be wrapped up in one start-to-finish schedule in and around Goa,” the source added.

Akshay, though, will resume filming the horror comedy in August and will expectedly complete by the end of September as the makers are planning to release it in the beginning of 2020. The film will be produced by Shabina Khan and Tusshar Kapoor while Kiara Advani features as the female lead.
