Watch: Varun Dhawan reveals what Shah Rukh Khan said to him after watching Kalank’s teaser

Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Kemmu starrer Kalank’s trailer was released today. The event was a gala affair with the stars talking about their roles, characters and experience on working on the period drama. During the trailer launch event, Varun was asked about Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction to the teaser as he was supposed to play Varun’s character originally.

Talking about SRK’s reaction to the teaser, Varun said, “Honestly, I never spoke to him how I should approach the role but I was honestly very aware that Shah Rukh Sir and other star cast were supposed to do the film and Karan was supposed to direct as Yash Johar was producing it. Bahut waqt beet chukka hai iss baat ko aur uske baad Karan ne yeh film banane ka idea chod diya tha as his father passed away and this story was very close to his heart. When Abhishek heard this story he came and told me and we never imagined that Abhishek will eventually direct this film and I will act in it. But when I asked Shah Rukh sir about the teaser he had some good things to say about it, I also told him ki ‘sir soorma bhi lagaya hai’. He smiled at me and said, ‘good you’re working hard, doing these roles will get you closer to the audience.”

Kalank was conceptualized fifteen years ago but was put on hold after Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar’s demise. Since this was a film close to Yash Johar’s heart Karan could not bring himself to direct the film and had put the project on a backburner. However, now the film is all set to release with a totally different star cast from what was originally planned. Kalank is directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by KJo, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Hindi. It is slated to release on April 17.
