Tabu’s role in AndhaDhun was fabulous; this is the best era for a woman to be in films: Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit is a bona fide star of the 90s' but even after a decade, her charm is equivalent to what it used to be earlier. In fact, Madhuri is one of the few actresses for whom roles are being written even in the age of new generation stars such as Alia Bhatt, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ananya Panday. And she is glad about that, Madhuri admitted during her interview with PeepingMoon.

The scenario in India is pretty much different from that in the west as Hollywood actors do not get enough work after a certain age. In India, it certainly isn’t so as Madhuri, in this context, told us that this is the best era for female actors in the Hindi film industry.

“Let’s take one film at a time. For anything to change, it will always take time. Even in Hollywood, there aren’t women-centric roles or good parts for women being written but now I can see that happening in India and women are getting very good parts too,” Madhuri, star of films Tezaab, Parinda, Saajan and Beta, told PeepingMoon.

Apart from Madhuri, Tabu, as well, has been breaking barriers with her respective performances in films such as Haider, Drishyam, Talvar as well as Golmaal Again. Not to forget, AndhaDhun, headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana – Tabu’s character in the Sriram Raghavan-directed film, marked in shades of grey, received a whole lot of applause from fans as well as critics. Madhuri, in fact, also praised Tabu’s role as she said, “I thought Tabu’s role in AndhaDhun was fabulous. It was a different and amazing role. That’s why I said, this is the best era for a woman to be in the films.”

The 51-year-old actress also added that it was slightly difficult for female actors to opt for content-driven roles in the 90s but that isn’t the case at present. “It was difficult for women to break through and do things they are doing now,” Madhuri added.

After 2007’s Aaja Nachle, Madhuri Dixit has been making sporadic appearances on screen – after her special appearance in the song Ghagra in 2013’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, she starred in Dedh Ishqiya and Gulaab Gang – both of which released in 2014. Four years later, she appeared in the Marathi film Bucket List and is currently basking in the glory of her new film Total Dhamaal, which has collected over Rs 70 crore within four days of its release.
