Nawazuddin Siddiqui to back a biopic on legendary folk artiste Teejan Bai

It’s raining biopics in Bollywood and there’s one more in the works now. Nawazuddin Siddiqui seems to be really fond of biopics as he is backing another one on renowned folk singer Teejan Bai. Nawazuddin was recently seen in Thackeray, the biopic on Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and was also seen in Manto that was based on the life of Pakistani poet Saadat Hasan Manto.

Teejan Bai is a renowned folk artiste who performs Pandvani, a traditional performing art form involving narration of tales from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Apparently, Nawazuddin has been a huge admirer of Teejan from his early theatre days and has also seen her perform live on stage. Nawazuddin will be producing the biopic along with his wife Aaliya Siddiqui, who was the first one to embark on the idea of the biopic. Nawazuddin will be producing the film under his banner Magic If Films with Aaliya and brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui.

While talking about the biopic, Nawazuddin told a leading daily, “Traditional folk artists like her have a way of telling a story with their gestures, voice, and body language. It’s dramatic, OTT and magnificently enthralling. Legends like her have kept our country’s culture and art alive. You need to conserve what is yours." The film is still in the works and the script is being worked upon.
