Karan Johar has been censured on social media severely after he said that Anushka Sharma’s character Alizeh’s death in his 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil resulted out of “karmic payback” because she couldn’t reciprocate Ranbir Kapoor’s Ayan’s feelings. Twitter is upset, rather angry and found KJo’s reason for listing Alizeh’s death as bizarre enough – folks, thus, are flooding social media with exasperated responses.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, written and directed by KJo narrated Ayan Sanger’s story, a character hopelessly in love with Alizeh, who finds it difficult to correspond. Alizeh, ultimately, is diagnosed with cancer and dies in the end. The plot of the film received mixed responses but KJo’s justification for it didn’t as the internet termed it as “disgusting” while several others said that response as such wasn’t expected out of the filmmaker.

Karan’s explanation with respect to Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was told by him to a leading website as he said, “It’s a film I wanted to make because it’s personal and was cathartic for me. Ranbir (Kapoor) played me. I wanted to deal with the injury caused by a heartbreak.”

“Yes, the last track met with many polarised responses and rightfully so, but I was like she (Anushka Sharma’s character Alizeh who doesn’t reciprocate Ayan’s feelings) didn’t love him, she has to die. He loved her so crazily. She could’ve loved him back, why couldn’t she? So she got cancer and she died. Well, she got punished, I wrote it. See, a filmmaker is a God, you write, you create and you destroy,” he added.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil also featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in a cameo.
