Karan Johar doesn’t want to spoil his children Yash and Roohi, says ‘They should grow organically’

Filmmaker Karan Johar spoke at length about his children, twins Yash and Roohi at the World Economic Forum in Davos and told a leading channel that he doesn’t want to spoil them. "I don't want to spoil them because I was spoiled by my father silly, my mother kept me strong and stable. And now my mother and me are co-parenting, so it's the same thing all over again,” Karan told the channel.

Moreover, Karan also added that he wants Yash and Roohi to grow up in an “open environment”, where they are able to express their feelings, adding that he wants his children to lead a life of their own.

"The one thing that I would do when I raise my children is actually keep them very open-minded and also not fall into traps. I think there are many children and parents tend to do when they say little things like 'Don't cry like a girl'. I think that can really, really affect a child. That is toxic masculinity. I want my children to be in an open environment where they can say and express what they feel, where they don't need to be slotted. I really don't care what they do in life, whether they do the same thing as me or not, whether they are chip of nepotism or not. I would want them to live the life they want," Karan added.

The same rule applies to Yash and Roohi in choosing their respective careers as well, Karan said, adding that if his children intend to make movies, they should and if they aren’t interested in doing so, they shouldn’t. Instead, Yash and Roohi should just “grow organically," Karan explained.

"If they don't want to make movies, they shouldn't make movies. Whatever they want to do it, let them do it. I don't want to keep shoving the thought of cinema down their throat or up their heads. Because I really believe that they should grow organically and do whatever they want to," Karan added.

Yash and Roohi were born in 2017. Karan Johar is a celebrated filmmaker, who has directed movies such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
