Chhapaak is a film based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Now 29, Laxmi survived a horrific acid attack in New Delhi in 2005 as she was attacked by a man whose proposal she had rejected. Deepika will play Laxmi Agarwal in the film that will also mark her debut as a producer.

While speaking to a leading daily in 2018, Ms Agarwal had said that she is happy that Deepika is playing her role in the film.

“I want to thank Deepika ji, Meghna ji and the entire team who will be working together on the film. I am glad that the movie will spread awareness and will help people who are victims of such incidents to come out of it. They will get inspired that if she can do it then why not us,” Laxmi had told the daily.

Deepika was last seen onscreen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s January release Padmaavat.
