In an unexpected turn of events, actor Alok Nath, in connection with the sexual harassment case filed against him by screenwriter and producer Vinta Nanda, has been granted Anticipatory Bail Application (ABA) in the Dindoshi sessions court on Saturday. On December 14, last year, Alok had filed an anticipatory bail plea before the court, a month after the Oshiwara police had booked him for rape.
Today, the City Civil and Sessions Court at Dindoshi was hearing his plea seeking protection from arrest.
Earlier, the court had rejected actor Alok Nath's anticipatory bail application in Nanda's rape case by denying him interim protection from arrest.
On November 21, a rape case was registered against Alok Nath by the Mumbai Police, based on a complaint filed by the writer-producer Vinta Nanda, who accused him of raping her 19 years ago. The FIR was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Amidst the #MeToo movement, Nanda had narrated her horrifying ordeal in a Facebook post in October. She was the writer and producer of teleserial Tara in the 90s, in which Nath played a lead role. Following this, the Cine And TV Artistes’ Association sent a notice to the 62-year-old actor seeking an explanation as to why he should not be debarred after the allegations. Other than Nanda, Sandhya Mridul had also shared her account of being harassed by Nath.
