We felt our film will get enough breathing space in the earlier week: Emraan Hashmi on Cheat India’s release date being preponed

Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited film Cheat India has been preponed by a week. The film which was slated for release on January 25 previously, will now release on January 18. In a joint press conference today, the makers of Cheat India and Thackeray revealed the new release date of the former ensuring that the biopic on the life of Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray does not clash at the box office with Emraan’s film.

Talking about the decision to prepone the release date of Cheat India, Emraan reasoned, “We have decided to prepone the release date of Cheat India to January 18 and there are a couple of reasons for that. The first is that we felt that our film deals with a problem that has never been dealt before, that of the education system in India. There has never been a film like this attempted before and hence we get an open week, we get enough breathing space for our film to grow and seep into the consciousness of the audience and we get the better of the second week also. Since there is a lot of noise on that weekend we felt our film will get time to grow and will get a better open week if released earlier.”

During the press conference he was also asked whether there was any pressure on him to change the film’s release date from the political party, Emraan said, “There was no pressure at all, if there had been any pressure we wouldn’t be sitting here together. We are all sitting here as friends.”

Cheat India is based on the malpractices prevalent in the Indian education system. It also stars Shreya Dhanwanthary in the lead opposite Emraan. On the other hand, Thackeray stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead and is written by Sanjay Raut and directed by Abhijit Panse.
