IFFI 2018: Varun Dhawan reveals he auditioned for Dhobi Ghat but ‘didn’t get the part’

Varun Dhawan’s debut in the Hindi film industry was handled by filmmaker Karan Johar as the actor starred in a principal role in 2012’s Student Of The Year but before that film, he had auditioned for Kiran Rao's Dhobi Ghat. This revelation was made by Varun during a session at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji on November 25 as the actor attended with his father, filmmaker David Dhawan.

Before making a career in films, Varun, in fact, also tried working at a bank following which, he auditioned for Dhobi Ghat but guess what? Varun didn’t get the role. "I auditioned for Dhobi Ghat but didn’t get the part,” Varun said during the session at IFFI. That’s okay, we guess because Varun’s father wasn’t quite obliged about his son starting off in the industry with Dhobi Ghat.

"'You are mad or what you're going to do this Dhobi Ghat? I told his mother that 'if he wants to do films, he should do it properly. He can't start it (career) with this kind of film,” David Dhawan said at IFFI, a news agency reports.

The filmmaker, however, was delighted about the fact that KJo had decided to launch his son with Student of the Year.

"I said, 'What more can you ask for?' And he never asked me to make a film for him. When Karan said I'm directing the film, I said (to Varun), 'Now you just put your feet on his shoulders and jump'," David Dhawan said.

Well, David Dhawan is elated with Varun’s success in Bollywood as the actor is the star of blockbusters Main Tera Hero, ABCD 2, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2. Last seen in Sui Dhaaga, Varun will appear next in Kalank.
