Mumbai Police registers a rape case against Alok Nath after #Metoo allegations by Vinta Nanda

Mumbai Police has registered a rape case against Bollywood actor Alok Nath, who was accused by writer-producer Vinta Nanda for sexually harassing her 19 years ago. The FIR, lodged against him at Oshiwara police station, comes almost after two months of investigation of the entire evidence. According to the Mumbai Police, the complainant had given several proofs about the alleged incident and and a team was working on the same.

Meanwhile, victim's lawyer Dhruti Kapadia further informed, "After inquiring about the case for almost a month, the cops have taken her final statement last night and booked Aloknath under section 376 (rape) and 377 (Unnatural offences) of IPC. We demand immediate arrest of Alok nath." The National Commission for Women also wrote a letter to the DGP and Chief Minister of the province and asked to take action in this matter.

For the unversed, Vinta, in a chilling Facebook post, had accused Nath of sexually assaulting her when she was the producer of 90’s television show Tara, which cast the actor in the lead role. After sharing her experience of harassment on social media, she filed a case against Alok at the Oshiwara police station.

Although Alok denied Vinta's accusations, his wife Ashu Nath asked the court to direct Vinta to abstain from discussing the case with the press or writing about it on social media until the hearing of the defamation case that she has filed against her, concludes. However, the court refused to oblige, saying that it doesn’t have the authority to issue such an order.

Alok was recently expelled by the Cine And Television Artistes Association (CINTAA) as well.
