Producer Ronnie Screwvala has responded to the controversy that his new film Kedarnath mired itself in after teerth purohits (priests) in Uttarakhand’s Chardham demanded a ban on the movie after they were “told” that it allegedly “hurts Hindu religious sentiments by promoting love jihad.” At the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai on November 12, Ronnie said that team Kedarnath has not been approached regarding the matter and that his job is to get the film censored.
“No one approached us regarding this. Our onus is to get the film censored. They are the single and sole body that represents this and we are all very creative people,” Ronnie said at the event.

Furthermore, Ronnie also said that it is unfair to judge a film without watching it and an opinion should be formed only after Kedarnath is watched in entirety.
“We are all Indians first and I don’t think there is anything in the movie. So if anyone has a point of view like most other movies that get into controversy – it only starts before they see the movie. I don’t know how after sixty seconds of watching something, somebody has formed such an opinion. We haven’t heard about it. Our job is to get to the censors. And as far as we are concerned, let somebody comment after they have seen the movie. We’ll be happy to get feedback,” Ronnie added.

Kedarnath marks Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan’s debut in Bollywood and casts Sushant Singh Rajput opposite her. The film is a love story set in the backdrop of the catastrophic floods in 2013 in the Uttarakhand town.
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kedarnath is scheduled to release on December 7.
