The much-anticipated teaser of Kangana Ranaut’s magnum opus Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released today and we must say that it was well worth the wait. The film based on the enigmatic and iconic figure of Rani Lakshmi Bai manages to do justice to the valour, grit, and determination of the warrior queen. While watching the teaser one can’t help but remember the lines from the famous poem dedicated to Rani of Jhansi, “Khub Ladi Mardani Woh To Jhansi Wali Rani Thi.”
Here are 5 things that we absolutely loved about Kangana’s film:
Kangana Ranaut
Kangana plays the titular role in the film, effectively without a big male hero and dominates the teaser with her presence. The actress does not look petite, frail or delicate. She is no damsel in distress and lights up the screen with her magnificent portrayal of the Queen.
Looking at her in the teaser you get the feeling that no other actress could essay this role as superbly as Kangana is doing. She is fierce, rides a horse effortlessly, wields a sword in both hands and is not afraid of blood, gore, and grime. Kangana surely took time but her portrayal has left everyone impressed.
The fight sequences
Rani Laksmi Bai took up arms against the British and spearheaded the 1857 First War of Independence; she is well-known for her bravery and valour on the battlefield so it is but natural that a film made on her will showcase battle scenes. Kangana is shown riding a horse and battling it out with the British soldiers. The fight sequences are superb and have been shot beautifully which makes the film a must watch.
The special effects
Unlike Thugs of Hindostan, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi has special effects which are not laughable and superb. The fight sequences are superbly crafted and the film does not make a mockery of such a glorious moment in the history of Indian freedom struggle. The film is mounted at a grand scale and even the palatial sequences look breathtaking.
The Women fighters
Kangana is seen giving training to a group of women who are being trained in firing rifles. She is also seen flanked by women with bows and arrows. Ankita Lokhnade makes a blink-and-you-miss-me appearance too in the teaser.
The Maternal Instinct
Rani Lakshmi Bai took up arms because on the death of her husband, her son was not recognized by the British as the rightful heir to the throne. The Britishers wanted to annex the kingdom and that irked the queen tremendously. Kangana is seen carrying and cradling her son in the teaser making her look more endearing.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi also stars Jishu Sengupta, Suresh Oberoi, Danny Denzongappa, Atul Kulkarni, Ankita Lokhande, Misti, Unnati Davera, Zeeshan Ayub, Rajeev kacharo, Nihar Pandya, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Manish Wadhwa. Directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi the film is slated for a January 25 release.
