On Thursday, the Supreme Court of India announced the decriminalization of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that referred to homosexual relations as “against the order of nature” and hence held people from the Queer community as criminals. A five-judge Constitution bench was appointed to give a concurring judgement, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.
The agitation that began in 1992 in Delhi finally rests in peace today. Bollywood and its influential folks have been trying their hand time and again at bringing about change in the society by showcasing the many (human) sides of the queer community. At one time, transgender and homosexuals were a part of the big screen where their only purpose was to be demeaned and serve laughter.

However, gone are the days when stereotypes defined the minority community on-screen.
