Anurag Kashyap opens up about working with Abhishek Bachchan in Manmarziyaan after their fall out

Abhishek Bachchan and Anurag Kashyap might have had their own set of differences years ago but after working together in Manmarziyaan, their equation has changed completely. With Manmarziyaan – a love story set in Punjab - Abhishek will appear on screen after a hiatus of two years. Anurag, in the meantime, spoke to a leading daily about his experience of working with Abhishek after their fall out of sorts and also elaborated on their friendship.

Anurag and Abhishek’s disagreement dates back to 2004 – during Yuva’s release. The film, which was written by Anurag, cast Abhishek in the principal role. While Abhishek’s performance in the film was widely appreciated, Anurag didn’t quite approve of it and the 42-year-old actor kind of “took it hard” as per the filmmaker.

Abhishek, in fact, also admitted the same in an interview to the daily over the weekend and said, “I don’t think he (Anurag) liked my work in the film (Yuva).” Owing to this episode, Abhishek and Anurag didn’t speak to each other for almost 15 years.

“I wrote in my blog that it (Abhishek’s performance in Yuva) could have been better. And I think Abhishek took it hard because that was a performance that everyone appreciated. He thought a writer usually doesn't say such things. We didn't talk to each other for 10-15 years,” Anurag told the daily.

Nevertheless, Anurag and Abhishek have moved past their history and the filmmaker said that working with the 42-year-old actor in Manmarziyaan was “lovely”.

“We have become good friends. You know when you work with someone, you think they have got your back. I felt the same with him,” Anurag added.

On being asked whether he had reservations before working with Abhishek, Anurag said, “I had reservations before I met him. But once I did, they disappeared.”

Well, all’s well that ends well, certainly.

Manmarziyaan, meanwhile, co-stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, and is scheduled to release this month.
