Sanjay Dutt wanted me to play Nargis Dutt’s role in the remake of Raat aur Din: Aishwarya

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be sharing screen space once again with her husband Abhishek Bachchan in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulab Jamun after eight years. The two were last seen onscreen together in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. In a recent interview with a leading daily, the actress revealed her future projects which she is about to green light.

Talking about the remake of late Nargis ji's Raat Aur Din, Aishwarya told the leading daily, “When Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) and I were filming Shabd in 2005; he had said that if there was ever a remake of Raat Aur Din, I should essay the protagonist. It made me happy that he believed I could play his mother’s role.”

Aishwarya also admitted that there is a possibility of doing Jasmine and the remakes of Woh Kaun Thi and Raat Aur Din. However, the actress said in the interview, “I had asked the makers of the surrogacy story (Jasmine) for a rewrite. There were two remakes (Woh Kaun Thi and Raat Aur Din), which were interesting ideas. I respect the movies of those times (the 60's). So, I asked them to get their rights in place.”

Aishwarya was last seen in Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Fanney Khan where she played the role of a pop diva, Baby Singh. The film was based on the issue of body shaming and realizing one’s dreams. However, the film failed to make a mark at the box office. Aishwarya had also refuted rumours of choosing Anurag Kashyap’s film Gulab Jamun over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next. The former beauty queen added that Abhishek and she had agreed on the project last year itself, they were just waiting for the announcement of the film after some rework on the script.
