Gold: Did Mouni Roy bag role in Akshay Kumar's film because of Salman Khan? Here's the truth

Actress Mouni Roy has refuted reports of Salman Khan's involvement in her debut film, Gold and said that rumours as such are "hurtful". The 32-year-old actress is making her film debut with Akshay Kumar and in an interview with a leading entertainment tabloid, expressed dissent as she opined that her moment of glory was attributed to someone else.

"Salman Khan has had no role to play in my Bollywood debut. I don’t know how these reports emerged and I wonder why anybody would do that for me. Is it so unbelievable that after acting for 10 years and being a Bengali, I can’t land a Bengali character’s role by myself? It was hurtful," Mouni told the tabloid.

In Reema Kagti's Gold, Mouni has been cast as Akshay's character Tapan Das' wife. Set in 1948, Gold is based on Tapan Das' dream of winning a gold medal at the Olympics for an independent India.

Not that Mouni wasn't aware of rumours as such, but she refrained from discussing them since "it will look like I am using Salman sir’s name for publicity, and I don't want to do that".

Salman and Mouni's professional relationship has been dissected when she appeared on Bigg Boss 11 to promote her series Naagin. Mouni, however, clarified that she hasn't received a "single call" from Salman for a prospective film.

"How could such false news do the rounds? What hurt me was that the media gave me no credibility as an actor. It was my moment, but they took it away from me. He is someone I love and respect immensely. I have been his fan since I was a little girl, and I used to collect his posters and pictures. So, I don’t want to just take his name, but now that this has come up, let me clarify that I have not got a single call from Salman Khan’s production house for any role," Mouni said.

On the work front, Mouni will be seen in Brahmastra, RAW and Made In China after Gold which is scheduled to release on August 15.
