Here's what Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal play in Karan Johar's Takht

Karan Johar has announced his next directorial, a period drama set in the Mughal era, titled Takht. As the name suggests, it's the story of the fight to take over the Mughal throne. The protagonists are Dara Shukoh or Dara Shikhoh and his younger brother, Aurangzeb. The filmmaker hasn't revealed much about Takht. However, since he has said that it's set in the history of the country and is solely based on historical facts and writings, it isn't very difficult to find out what it is about.

The film delves into the mid 1650s when the two among the seven children of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan -- Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb, started their tussle over the throne. It involved deception, cruelty, backstabbing, strength, power games and brutality of relationships.

Now, as a leading daily has learnt, while Ranveer is playing the character of Dara Shikhoh, the elder son of Shah Jahan, it's Vicky who will be seen playing the ever-so-infamous ruler, Aurangzeb in Takht.

Going by the history, seems like Kareena will play the character of Nadira Banu, the beautiful wife of Dara Shikhoh, who was also his paternal uncle's daughter. The legend has it that the two were completely devoted to each other and unlike most other rulers, Dara never married another woman and had eight children with Nadira.

On the other hand, possibility of Anil Kapoor playing the role of Shah Jahan is also quite high.

It will be too soon to talk about Takht and its characters, but Ranveer and Vicky have surely raised the bar high!
