Rajkummar Rao on Fanney Khan's poor reviews: I can only control my honesty in a film

Rajkummar Rao says he doesn't expect his every film to turn out great and receive five stars from the critics. He says he understands that filmmaking is a collaborative effort and audience's reception to your films is not in your hands.

The actor's latest release, Fanney Khan, also featuring Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in pivotal roles, has received mild reviews. The actor is unperturbed by it because he says he knows his performance has been appreciated in the film.

Rajkummar talked to a leading daily about the audience's reaction to Fanney Khan and said, "It (poor reviews) doesn’t affect my mindset. That people couldn’t connect to the story is a momentary (setback). But then, you learn your lesson".

He added, "I have read reviews where people said that they wanted to see more of my character in the narrative. That is encouraging. At the end of the day, I can only control my honesty in the film. What people like or dislike is not in my hands".

He also mentioned he doesn't mind working as a supportive part in a film. He said, "We can’t always make films which will get a five- star rating. It’s fine with me. I just have to keep working and keep believing in things that matter to me. I am a big fan of Anil sir, and I was glad to get the opportunity of working with him. If there is an exciting role, I don’t mind exploring a supporting character".

The actor has finished his work on his next, Mental Hai Kya, with Kangana Ranaut. He has also got Made In China, also featuring Mouni Roy, in his kitty. He is gearing up for the release of Stree with Shraddha Kapoor next. More interesting projects are up his sleeves.
