Paltan trailer launch: JP Dutta talks about his return as director, Abhishek Bachchan's exit

Filmmaker JP Dutta is back in action with what he does best! After super hit films like Border, LOC Kargil, Refugee, Kshatriya and more, he has now returned with Paltan. This multi-starrer features Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Chaudhary, Luv Sinha, Harshvardhan Rane and Siddhant Kapoor.

The trailer of the much-awaited film was launched today and the event was attended by the entire cast, along with the director. JP Dutta took center stage along with daughter Nidhi Dutta, and talked about his return to direction after a long hiatus, Abhishek Bachchan's exit from the film and shared his experiences while shooting for the film.

For the unversed, Abhishek was approached to play a role in the film. Despite giving his nod for the same, he left everyone in shock by walking out of the film just a few hours before the shoot. Later, the same role went to Harshvardhan Rane. When the filmmaker was quizzed about it at the event, he said, "Please talk to Bachchans as I don’t know what exactly happened and what went wrong."

Talking about his return to direction, he said, "I remember saying that post Border I won’t make any war film but then Kargil happened. I had promised a trilogy so that’s why Paltan."

Interestingly, JP Dutta also spoke on the issue of Kashmir and compared the state to '"a child of broken marriage", who gets toffee from both the ends.'

Apart from him, Gurmeet who plays a pivotal role in the film too shared his experience. He said, "My dad just retired from Army and I feel that I am lucky that I got to work with JP Dutta. He wanted me to be a soldier but I ran to Mumbai to become an actor. Dad didn’t talk to me for 3 years. I believe with Paltan I could complete a small bit of that dream."

Set in 1967 when Indian soldiers had to protect Nathula Pass in Sikkim from China, the film is slated to release on September 7, 2018.
