It was nostalgic: Anil Kapoor on filming in chawls for Fanney Khan

If there's one thing that defines evergreen, it has to be Bollywood's superstar Anil Kapoor. He has been in the industry for four decades and still reigns as always. After enjoying the commercial success of his last film, Race 3, he geared up for his next film - Fanney Khan.

The film is an official adaptation of Dutch film Everybody's Famous and stars Rajkummar Rao, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Pihu Sand in the lead roles along with Anil, playing the titular role. The film deals with body shaming and is a journey of a father-daughter duo wanting to make it big in the world with their singing talent.

Rajkummar plays the boy-next-door and a true confidant for Anil, a layman. They find their way to success through a pop star named Baby Singh, played by Aishwarya Rai. The trailer instantly gained popularity due to the subtle and clean humour. However, we're also expecting it to be an emotional rollercoaster ride for its characters. The film has been shot in real locations including Bhindi Bazar and this brought back many memories for Anil Kapoor who grew up in the chawls of Tilak Nagar, Chembur.

Reminiscing about his pre-stardom days, the actor said, "After a lot of my acting years, I could play a role of a character with which I could connect emotionally. Before I came into this world, I used to stay in Chembur. I used to spent quite a lot of my time amidst the small colonies and narrow lanes. So when I started doing this film, it all came back to me as a nostalgia."

Fanney Khan is directed by Atul Majrekar and is slated to release on August 3, 2018. The film also features Divya Dutt and Anaitha Nair.
