Shahid Kapoor's Batti Gul Meter Chalu will now clash with Abhishek Bachchan's Manmarziyaan

Looks like there is no ending to Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam's Batti Gul Meter Chalu’s woes. After battling monetary issues, and production hurdles the film finally restarted its shoot and wrapped up. The film was earlier slated for an August 31 release, then on September 14. However, the Shree Narayan Singh directed film was clashing with Kajol’s Helicopter Eela which is also slated for a September 14 release and eventually decided on a fresh date. The makers of Shahid’s film moved the release date to September 21. However, now the film will clash with Abhishek Bachchan’s Manmarziyaan.

Helmed by Anurag Kashyap Manmarziyaan also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles. Yesterday the film’s release date was announced and the film will now be clashing with Batti Gul Meter Chalu. We wonder whether the makers of the two films will stick to their release date or reschedule them. Abhishek was last seen in Housefull 3 which released in 2016 and is teaming up with Taapsee and Vicky for the first time. Interestingly, this is also the first time that the actor will be playing the role of a Sikh (as his paternal grandmother Teji Bachchan was a Sikh).

Producer Aanand L Rai revealed the release date of Manmarziyaan with a colourful poster on Twitter yesterday with the words, "I don't want to die without a few scars"! This is how I define Anurag Kashyap  and his brilliant actors on the journey of Manmarziyaan.” A couple of days back the lead star cast of Manmarziyaan hounded producer Aanand for the release date of their film on Twitter and had a friendly banter with him. They questioned their producers with funny puns that harped on the films that they were shooting for. Eventually, Aanand had to relent and announce the release date of the film.

As per reports, Manmarziyaan is a love triangle between the three main leads whereas Batti Gul Meter Chalu is a social drama based on the problems of power cuts in rural India. Like Batti Gul Meter Chalu even Manmarziyaan had changed its release date. The film was supposed to release on September 7, 2018, but JP Dutta's Paltan is releasing on that day. Abhishek who was offered a role in the film was keen to avoid a clash with Dutta as the director had launched him in his debut film Refugee in 2000.

On the work front, Shahid has quite a few lucrative projects in his kitty. He will be seen in Raja Krishna Menon’s film on a boxer and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy. Taapsee will be seen in Mulk opposite Rishi Kapoor and in Badla where she teams up with her Pink co-star Amitabh Bachchan. Vicky is already reaping accolades for his portrayal of Sanjay Dutt’s best friend in the film Sanju and is currently shooting for Uri opposite Yami Gautam in Serbia.
